Ⅴ、Teaching Procedures

Step 1. Greetings

Step 2. Lead in

Show some expressional signs in OICQ to make the Ss interested in what they will learn.

Step 3. Fast reading

Let the Ss read the passage quickly, then get general idea of each paragraph and divide the whole passage into three parts.

Step 4. Intensive reading

1. Ask the Ss to read the passage carefully to fill in a chart with the details of this passage.

2. Answer the following questions.

(1). How do you express the meanings below using body language? Speak out the ways then act them out.

a. I’m tired.

Pressing your palms together and resting your head on the back of your hand while closing the eyes

b. I’m full.

Moving the hand in circles over the stomach.

c. I’m hungry.

(2). What are the functions of smile?

A smile can help us get through difficulties, make friends, and express any emotion. We can use it to apologize, to greet people, to start a conversation and to make us happy.

Step 5. Activities

Imagine that you go abroad but you know little local language. One day, you go to a restaurant to have something to eat. Try to use body language as much as possible to let the waiter know what you mean.

Ask some groups to give their performances in front of the class.

Step 6. Listening and Consolidation

Let the Ss listen to the tape of the passage if time permits.

Step 6. Summary and Homework

Today we have learnt the passage body talk; we know body language varies from culture to culture. So we should do in Rome as Romans do. After class, please read the passage as much as possible and find out some difficult and important points in this passage.
