远大前程英文读后感1

“Great expectations” is one of Dicken’s most maturest works. After Dicken had experienced large part of meaningful life, he had a deeper cognition for people, environment, as well as the life which he had gone through. And all the mature cognitions are included in this writing---Great expectations.

Pip was brought up by his sister who was unpleasant as well as crude and her friendly blacksmith husband—Joe. Joe himself had arranged a common hard but satisfied path for Pip to go through, and on the other hand, Pip beheld this as his highest goal to achieve.

But the two things which he had experienced later had changed his pursue and his fate as well. Met Abel Magwith(an escaped convict) in the swamp, and unwillingly helped him out of danger by stealing food from his own home. If say that had changed his attitude for material life, then, his introduction to Miss Havisham, an aging woman who had been jilted at the alter and Estella who had been brought up by Havisham only to revenge for her own pain had brought vast shock for his world of spirit.

Aspiring to be a gentleman despite his humble born, Pip fortunately or unfortunately received a fund of wealth from an unknown source and being sent to London with a lawyer. From then on, he became a gentleman without question at the price of losing everything.

The title of this book is ‘Great expectations” which make an impression on us that the character would have great expectations just as the title goes. But in fact this title has a tone of sarcastic on the other way around.

This story full of quirkiness from the very beginning to the end, the relations among characters are anfractuous as well which actually attracted me a lot.

One of the paragraphs, which I appreciate most implicatively as well as beautifully expresses the feeling between Pip and Estella.

“We are friends,” said I, rising and bending over her, as she rose from the bench.

‘And will continue friends apart.” Said Estella.

I took his hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first let the forge, so, the evening mists were rising now, and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her.

At the view of language, this works had achieved a step o f highest, Dicken had made this writing plain and fluent as well, which surely can attract lots of readers and high comments.

To be frank, I really impressed by this art of beauty. So I like Dicken’s works very much.

远大前程英文读后感2

I think there are three themes revealed in the novel Great Expectations. 1.women are fragile. That is not because those women are in lack of will, but that they need surviving abilities and that of self-survival and struggle against destiny. They always turn to men. That can be called “hero saving the beauty”. This notion originated in the Greek tales but is still adopted successively. The only difference between them lies in the plot and structure. Estella is adopted and trained to break men?s hearts by Miss Havisham. Havisham revenges men and marries Estella to an unworthy guy though Pip deeply loves Estella. Nothing can be bitterer than see his lover married to another guy for a man. Pip really fell into the despair of losing Estella. However, Estella suffers a lot and begins to regret for her initial choice for her spouse and begins to treasure 2.Facing destiny, women are physically and intellectually inferior to men. Actually it does not mean they have an inferior intelligence, but that it seems so. Or we can say that both men and women have the same potential of intelligence, but women never show a lot. God creates everyone equally, but not everyone is granted the same approaches to success or achievements. Women are restricted to families, which restricts them from showing a lot. They can cook food well, which is one standard for their excellence but not the one for male. The novel goes this way since it implies the male consciousness. The ordinary intelligence of women in marriage and love is exposed completely. Havisham is abandoned on her wedding day, but she keeps the room like the day she got married, while on the other hand she tries every means to revenge men. Bearing these two conflictive thoughts in mind, Havisham certainly fails to live her own life out of the control or influence from male. 3.The discipline for women ]. A feminist De Bufuwa says: “One is called woman because she is ?made? not ?born?.” Culturally woman is the product of society and the result of its strict restrictions. Those women who do not obey the disciplines are not regarded as gracious or good women by social criteria, which emphasizes on families, the responsibilities for their husbands and their dependence on men. In Great Expectations, Estella and Havisham?s misfortunes are closely attached to love and marriage. They try to revenge men and but they cannot leave men. Estella leaves Pip, but at last she comes back to him. And Havisham keeps thinking about her marriage day and her husband. So in Dickens?s novel, women are decent on surface, but failed in heart. Every period has an outstanding feature, which make descendants linger in mind. To learn this novel can help us in understanding better women?s efforts to stand up. Society presses public to believe that male plays a dominant role. Havisham can symbolize a feminist but what then? She needs a male accompany. Her ending somewhat is tragic but Estella harvests through a long time, but anyway she wins in depending man and leading a pleasant life.

远大前程英文读后感3

During the last month, I have been reading thenovel named Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I set up my mind to finish reading it for the simple reason that I have read the Chinese version of this great novel and I was deeply attracted by the story. The main character in this novel is Pip and the whole story goes like this: Pip was a orphan and was brought up by his sister “by hand”. His sister Mrs. Joe was very strict with him while his brother-in-law treat him kindly. As a result, the two developed a intimate relationship. Since Pip was asked to visit Miss Havishams’s house, his mind and his fate began to change. In Miss Havishams’s home, Pip saw her adopted daughter Estella and fell in love with her at the first sight. Then he was determined to bewell-educated andbecome a gentleman in order to deserve the beautiful girl Estella. And much to his delight, he was given a large sum of money and an opportunity to study abroad by an anonymous person. After a period of time, his great expectations came true and he became a gentleman at last. However, he found out that the money was offered by the criminal he had saved when he was young. He felt ashamed and didn’t want to use the money any more. What’s worse, the criminal Magwitch escapedfromprison to visit Pip and was noticed by the police. At last, Magwitch was sentenced to death and Pip led a normal life. The beautiful lady became a widow as her husband died. But Pip still loved her and promised to be friends with her all the same. Thisending is a bit reaasuring. Among those several characters in the novel, my favourite is Magwitch. He was homeless and poor when he was young and he used to be put into prison several times. No one cared about him, so when little Pip saved him by giving him some food, he felt moved. And he bore Pip’s help in his mind. When he was exiled overseas, he was determined to make a lot of money and help Pipbecome a gentleman. He worked hard and saved every coin he could, and then sent it to Pip. He did all of these secretly in order to prevent little Pipfrombeing embarrassed. After Pip became a real gentleman, Magwitch returned to England in secret only to see whether Pip had led a good life. What we can findfromhim is deep love for Pip. Although the society has deserted him, he is not deserted by himself. DifferentfromMiss Havishams who is black-hearted, Magwitch is like a father. He showed his love to Pip without any hesitation. He was just like Pip’s father. This is why I admire him very much.

Then when I look back into our society, I find that some parents are not as good as the criminal Magwitch. Cases are that parents push their children to work hard in order to be admitted into the college where they were eager to go when they were young. This usually leads to two consequences. One is that the children are exerted too much pressure and they go to extremes. The other is that their children do as they are told to and don’t have their independent thinking. They lackthe comprehensive abilities to cope withfierce competition in today’s society. In other words, they are likely to survive inthis competitive world. God is equal to everyone. When Magwitch knew that Estella was his daughter and had been loved by Pip, he felt relieved. I am also relieved because one good turn deserves another.

Impression of a book of 'Great Expectation' Went to the bookstore during theholiday, I chose a book from a lot of world masterpieces, named Great Expectation, when I pick up this book, I have not expected that such an English book will have a so great impact on me, making my thoughts and feelings very deep, I think that theform and content of this book are all very outstanding. It is written by Charles Dickens,a famous writter from England, and it is not important. Now I will turn to thetopic on how it can attract me.

The character in this masterpiece left me the deep impression is Pip.He falls in lovewith Estella. He studied as hard as he could.Educating himself for her.Why did helove Estella so much? Just for her beautiful face? because she is pretty? She is rich? She is proud? In fact, I think Pip pay out so much for the love. She didn't treat him well and even that she didn't respect him at all! She put the food for him as a dog,but he didn't hate her.

On the contrary, he left from his home and his friends. He just want to be a gentleman. He abandoned a lot than he got. I can't understand why he do it in this way. I think it's not worth at all. If one person don't like you or not respect you,you needn't do everything for her. So it made me quite sad.I feel sorry for Pip. He had a very difficult life... Miss Havisham is aslo a character who left me a deep impression. She was a pitiful lady. Her mother died young.

Her farther was very rich and very proud.with only one child,Miss Havisham,by his first wife.In fact, she should have a nice life, but her wedding was destroied by her fiance. He broke her heart and she was angry. She want to retaliate all men.She was really a abject woman. But she chose a wrong way to continue her life..She wanted to hurt other persons. And she had done. This is no good for her.Only made her feel a little comfortable.and there was more victims in the world.there are so many persons in the world.when they were hurt they want to hurt other innocent persons.

远大前程英文读后感6

Recently, I have finished reading Great Expectations, which is widely considered as the

masterpiece of Dickens. The historic background of this book is Victorian Period which was the time when British was governed by Queen Victoria. The hero of the book is Pip, who was living in a blacksmith family. Someday, he met Magwitch, who was a convict, and he helped him. To show his gratitude, Magwitch gave Pip a good fortune and Pip led a totally different life after he got the money. However, Pip lost all of his money and fame because of his enemies’ plot at the last and become ordinary people at the last.

Dickens is famous for his novel such as Great Expectations, the Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist and so on. He always creates some people in lower class and show their different qualities. In Great Expectations, he tried to show us the conflict between different classes in Victorian

Period by telling us the story of Pip. After Pip got the money, he left his friends and family to city, and then he learned to raise his social state. However, he was a child born in a blacksmith family and there’s a wide gap between him and the upper class. Finally, he lost all of his great

expectations and went back to his hometown as ordinary people. Fortunately, he met his lover, Estella, in Satis House and they left there together at the end of the story.

In the book, my favorite character is Joe, Pip’s brother in law. He was a blacksmith and belonged to the lower social class. However, he possessed some good qualities that made him noble. For example, though Joe didn’t know any word, he thought highly of Pip when Pip tried to write him a letter. What’s more, Pip’s sister always considered Pip as the burden of their family but Joe always believed that his brother can become successful. No matter how unkindly he was treated, Joe was always family to others. Undoubtedly, it’s Joe’s noble quality that prevents Pip from becoming someone snobbish.

In my opinion, the story of Pip is really attractive while the writing style is also special. For example, Dickens used simile and metaphor for many times in his book. When Joe visited Pip, Dickens wrote that Joe had taken his hat as a bird’s nest with egg in. I think it’s hard to show the inner world of characters as well as feeling because those things are really abstract. On the other hand, if we write it directly, that may be boring and childish. And by using simile, Dickens transforms the abstract feeling into visual language, with which we can use our imagination to enjoy the story much more easily. I think that we can also make good use of Dickens’s outstanding skills to improve our writing.

After reading “Great Expectations”, many people complained that the class difference will always result in tragedy and they think that we should try to destroy those barriers. However, I think the massage that Dickens wants to deliver is that we should always be friendly,

warm-hearted and optimistic. With these qualities, we can always lead a happy and comfortable life like Joe even though we don’t have much money.

"Great Expectations" has been considered to be one of Charles Dickens’ most mature and relatively late works. Having experienced a wealth of human life, Dickens got a profound understanding of human-being, the surrounding environment and his life experiences while all his mature thinking and understanding were summarized into the book "Great Expectations"。 The original meaning of the work’s title in fact is a heritage, but when it was translated into Chinese it gave me an impression that the title shows the hero of the story had Great Expectations. However, reading over the book I realized that this "Great Expectations" takes an ironic band——it should be said that the theme of this work not only told the story of orphan Pip who wanted to be the ideal first-class disillusionment. If one does think so, he holds a wrong understanding of the great significance why Dickens creative the work. The hero Pip lived with his sister’s family. Though their life was hard, Pip didn’t wish to be a first-class person his vision was to be a blacksmith like his brother-in-law, his sister’s husband. The reason why he changed his mind and was eager to be a first-class person later was the changing of environment——he met Miss Harvisham, Estella and some other complex people. As we know one of Dickenss philosophy thoughts is environment takes a deep impact to humans’ ideological and the story expresses his view that different environment creates different people. In short, I think the work was not arbitrarily written, but was based on the 10 works before aggregating Dickens’ thoughts. What is more, Dickens had put his outlook on life, his views of philosophy and ethics into the great creation.

The story is pided into three phases of Pips life expectations. The first "expectation" is allotted 19 chapters, and the other two 20 chapters each in the 59-chapter work. In some editions, the chapter numbering reverts to Chapter One in each expectation, but the original publication and most modern editions number the chapters consecutively from one to 59. At the end of chapters 19 and 39, readers are formally notified that they have reached the conclusion of a phase of Pips expectations.

In the first expectation, Pip lives a humble existence with his ill-tempered older sister and her strong but gentle husband, Joe Gargery. Pip is satisfied with this life and his warm friends until he is hired by Miss Havisham and Estella. From that time on, Pip aspires to leave behind his simple life and be a gentleman. This life is suddenly turned upside down when he is visited by a London attorney, Mr. Jaggers.

The second stage of Pips expectations has Pip in London, learning the details of being a gentlemen, having tutors, fine clothing, and joining cultured society. At the end of this stage, Pip is introduced to his benefactor, again changing his world.

Great Expectations is a novel by Charles Dickens, a famous writer from England. It is the story of the orphan Pip’s life.

  The character in this novelgave

me the deep impression was Pip.He fell in love with Estella. Educating himself for the girl,Pip studied as hard as he could.

Why did he love Estella so much? Not for her beautiful face, her treasure . Pip paid out so much for the love.

AlthoughEstella didn't treat him well and even that she didn't respect him at all! She put the food for him as a dog,but he didn't hate her. On the contrary, he left from his home with Pip/s friends. Pip just wanted to be a gentleman.

He abandoned a lot than he got. I can't understand why he do it in this way. I think it's not worth at all. If one person don't like you or not respect you,

you needn't do everything for her. So it made me quite sad.

And she had done. This was not good for her. Only made her feel a little comfortable but there were also more victims in the world.

There was a man who had seven sons, but he had no daughter, greatly though he longed for one. At last his wife told him that they could a书包范文 gain expect a child and, sure enough, when it was born it was a baby girl. There was great rejoicing, but the child was weak and puny, so weak that it had to be christened at once. The father told one of the boys to go quickly to the spring and fetch christening water; the other six ran along with him, and because each of them wanted to be the first to dip the jug into the well, it fell in and sank. So there they stood and didn‘t know what to do, and none of them dared go home. When they didn‘t come back their father got impatient and said:“ I‘ll wager they‘ve been playing some game again and forgotten all about it, the godless brats.“ He was afraid the little girl would have to die unbaptized, and in his rage he cried out:“ I wish those boys would all turn into ravens.“ He‘d scarcely spoken the words when he heard a whirring of wings in the air overhead, looked up and saw seven coal-black ravens flying away.

远大前程英文读后感11

In this summer holidays, I read a book called < Great Expectations>, it was written by Charles Dickens, one of the most famous English writers. He wrote lots of wonderful novels. This book is one of his compositions.

People always like to compare with their friends. It is a big foible of all the people. If other people have a lot of money, we also want to be rich. If all the people around us are poor , we never mind that we are very poor, too. we will not ashamed because of our folly. This is a social problem.

If we never possess anything, we will not mind we lost some thing. Since we don’t want to be very rich ,we will not feel despond because poor.

The protagonist of this novel is Pip (Handel)。 His parents died when he was a baby. His sister had brought him up ‘by hand’。 His sister married to Joe Gargery, the village blacksmith. They didn’t have much money, and Pip never went to school to study. But he was often very happy .Because all of his friends are like him. It isn’t very unfortunate to them, this is their lives. But by a chance, Pip helped a convict; he gave much food to him. Then he met Miss Havisham, a very strange old woman and she was very rich.

Four years later, Miss Havisham wants Pip to be removed from his home and educated as a gentleman who expects inherit a fortune when he grow up.

After hearing that . Pip started to despise his poor friends. He even feel ashamed because he live with the poor man . Pip’s ‘great expectations’ destroyed his life.

This novel told us that we cannot compare with others .Don’t feel envy at the others money. And if one day you be very rich , please don’t despise your poor friends.

远大前程英文读后感12

Dickens is not a writer disdaining women. Instead,he loves, respects and takes care of them. However, in his novels, he unconsciously degrades women and puts them inferior to men. Great Expectations is evidence to my thesis.

There are three aspects in this novel that I believe this kind of thought of Dickens is revealed.

The first one is that women are fragile. That is not because those women are in lack of will, but that they need surviving abilities and that of self-survival and struggle against destiny. They always turn to men. That can be called hero saving the beauty。 This notion originated in the Greek tales but is still adopted successively. The only difference between them lies in the plot and structure. Estella is adopted and trained to break men’s hearts by Miss Havisham. Havisham revenges men and marries Estella to an unworthy guy though Pip deeply loves Estella. Nothing can be bitterer than see his lover married to another guy for a man. Pip really fell into the despair of losing Estella. However, Estella suffers a lot and begins to regret for her initial choice for her spouse and begins to treasure

Then comes my second point. Facing destiny, women are physically and intellectually inferior to men.

The discipline for women is my third point. A feminist De Bufuwa says: One is called woman because she is ‘made’ not ‘born’。 Culturally woman is the product of society and the result of its strict restrictions. Those women who do not obey the disciplines are not regarded as gracious or good women by social criteria, which emphasizes on families, the responsibilities for their husbands and their dependence on men. In Great Expectations, Estella and Havisham’s misfortunes are closely attached to love and marriage. They try to revenge men and but they cannot leave men. Estella leaves Pip, but at last she comes back to him. And Havisham keeps thinking about her marriage day and her husband. So in Dickens’s novel, women are decent on surface, but failed in heart.

Society presses public to believe that male plays a dominant role. Havisham can symbolize a feminist but what then? She needs a male accompany. Her ending somewhat is tragic but Estella harvests through a long time, but anyway she wins in depending man and leading a pleasant life.

The above is what I get from the novel in the textbook. And to conclude my opinion in one sentence, I should say:women depend on men. That is not my opinion, but what I get. I have to mention that again since I myself is one part of that group and I am not willing to take a subordinate role in both family and society.

The character in this masterpiece left me the deep impression is Pip.He falls in love with Estella. He studied as hard as he could.Educating himself for her.Why did he love Estella so much? Just for her beautiful face? because she is pretty? She is rich? She is proud? In fact, I think Pip pay out so much for the love. She didn"t treat him well and even that she didn"t respect him at all! He broke her heart and she was angry. She wanted to retaliate all men. She was really a kind woman. But she chose a wrong way to continue her life. Miss Havisham wanted to hurt other persons.

And she had done. This was not good for her. Only made her feel a little comfortable but there were also more victims in the world.

The above is what I get from the novel in the textbook and to conclude my opinion in one sentence, I should say that people should not depend on others.

远大前程英文读后感15

Dickens is not a writer disdaining women. Instead,he loves, respects and takes care of them. However,in his novels,he unconsciously degrades women and puts them inferior to men.

That can be called “hero saving the beauty”。 This notion originated in the Greek tales but is still adopted successively. However,Estella suffers a lot and begins to regret for her initial choice for her spouse and begins to treasure

Then es my second point. Facing destiny, women are physically and intellectually inferior to men. The ordinary intelligence of women in marriage and love is exposed pletely. Havisham is abandoned on her wedding day,but she keeps the room like the day she got married, while on the other hand she tries every means to revenge men. Bearing these two conflictive thoughts in mind,Havisham certainly fails to live her own life out of the control or influence from male.

The discipline for women is my third point. A feminist De Bufuwa says: “One is called woman because she is ‘made’ not ‘born’。” Culturally woman is the product of society and the result of its strict restrictions. Those women who do not obey the disciplines are not regarded as gracious or good women by social criteria, which emphasizes on families, the responsibilities for their husbands and their dependence on men. In Great Expectations,Estella and Havisham’s misfortunes are closely attached to love and marriage. They try to revenge men and but they cannot leave men. Estella leaves Pip,but at last she es back to him. And Havisham keeps thinking about her marriage day and her husband. So in Dickens’s novel, women are decent on surface, but failed in heart.

Every period has an outstanding feature, which make descendants linger in learn this novel can help us in understanding better women’s efforts to stand up. Society presses public to believe that male plays a dominant role. Havisham can symbolize a feminist but what then? She needs a male acpany. Her ending somewhat is tragic but Estella harvests through a long time, but anyway she wins in depending man and leading a pleasant life.

The above is what I get from the novel in the textbook. And to conclude my opinion in one sentence,I should say:women depend on men.

In fact,I think Pip pay out so much for the love. She didnt treat him well and even that she didnt respect him at all! She put the food for him as a dog,but he didnt hate her. On the contrary,he left from his home and his friends. He just want to be a gentleman. He abandoned a lot than he got. I cant understand why he do it in this way. I think its not worth at all. If one person dont like you or not respect you,you neednt do everything for her. So it made me quite sad.I feel sorry for Pip. He had a very difficult life…

But she chose a wrong way to continue her lifeShe wanted to hurt other persons. And she had done. This is no good for made her feel a little fortable.and there was more victims in the world.there are so many persons in the world.when they were hurt they want to hurt other innocent persons.Athough this is no good for them, but they did so.I do not know why they did Made the world full of hateness. It is difficult to understand.

  Thats my thought.
