英语作文 篇1
The principal differences between my generation and my parents’ generation are in how they relate to others. My generation is more tolerant of other people’s choices, less concerned about what others think, and more self-centered.
My parents’ generation has stricter standards about what kinds of behavior are acceptable. They sometimes have a hard time accepting the fact that other people may have different ideas about what’s right and what’s wrong. My generation thinks people should have a lot of choices. For example, they choose whom they want to live with, whether or not to have children, whether or not to practice a particular religion, and what to do for a living.
My parents’ generation is much more concerned about what other people think of them. Many grew up in tightly knit communities where people knew each other’s families. Filling in meant that you had to act a certain way. Many of my generation grew up in loosely knit communities, where we only knew about our closest neighbors. We didn’t care what the rest of the community thought of us. Also, we were a very rebellious generation and often did thing just to shock people.
Wherever we grew up, most of my generation didn’t have to worry about having enough to eat or a roof over our heads. My parents’ generation did. They grew up during the Great Depression, when many people were poor. For this reason, my parents didn’t have time to analyze their feelings or think about their inner selves. They were too busy trying to get by. Children of my generation were well taken care of by their parents. Because of that, we had time to think about ourselves and our place in the universe. As adults, many of us have continued to be self-absorbed. We join health clubs to be prefect in body and go into therapy to be perfect in mind.
When I think about our actions, it seems that my parents’ generation is more “outer” directed and my generation is more “inner directed.”

英语作文 篇3
怎样最好的利用课本(How to Make the Most out of Youn Tetbooks)
though you have been studying in school for more than ten years, you may sometimes be at a loss how to make the most out of your tetbooks. some of you may even go so far as to think that your tetbooks are of no use at all, which is completely wrong. the following are some tips you can follow:
first, you should make a preliminary survey of each tetbook to get a general idea of what the book contains. second, you should read for deeper understanding and formulate questions as you read. net, you should make note of the major points of each lesson or chapter. after that, you should test yourself to be sure that you can answer questions likely to be raised in classes and on eaminations. finally, you should review your notes and reread any part of the book that is unclear to you.
if you have been reading your tetbook as suggested, you are doing it the right way. if you have not been doing so, it is wise that you try these tips and see what happens. chances are that you will find them very effective.
英语作文 篇4
observe a child; any one will do. you will see that not a day passes in which he does not find something or other to make him happy, though he may be in tears the net moment. then look at a man; any one of us will do. you will notice that weeks and months can pass in which day is greeted with nothing more than resignation, and endure with every polite indifference. indeed, most men are as miserable as sinners, though they are too bored to sin-perhaps their sin is their indifference. but it is true that they so seldom smile that when they do we do not recognize their face, so distorted is it from the fied mask we take for granted. and even then a man can not smile like a child, for a child smiles with his eyes, whereas a man smiles with his lips alone. it is not a smile; but a grin; something to do with humor, but little to do with happiness. and then, as anyone can see, there is a point (but who can define that point?) when a man becomes an old man, and then he will smile again.
it would seem that happiness is something to do with simplicity, and that it is the ability to etract pleasure form the simplest things-such as a peach stone, for instance.it is obvious that it is nothing to do with success. for sir henry stewart was certainly successful. it is twenty years ago since he came down to our village from london , and bought a couple of old cottages, which he had knocked into one. he used his house a s weekend refuge. he was a barrister. and the village followed his brilliant career with something almost amounting to paternal pride.i remember some ten years ago when he was made a kings counsel, amos and i, seeing him get off the london train, went to congratulate him. we grinned with pleasure; he merely looked as miserable as though hed received a penal sentence. it was the same when he was knighted; he never smiled a bit, he didnt even bother to celebrate with a round of drinks at the "blue fo". he took his success as a child does his medicine. and not one of his achievements brought even a ghost of a smile to his tired eyes.
i asked him one day, soon after hed retired to potter about his garden,8 what is was like to achieve all ones ambitions. he looked down at his roses and went on watering them. then he said "the only value in achieving ones ambition is that you then realize that they are not worth achieving." quickly he moved the conversation on to a more practical level, and within a moment we were back to a safe discussion on the weather. that was two years ago.
i recall this incident, for yesterday, i was passing his house, and had drawn up my cart just outside his garden wall. i had pulled in from the road for no other reason than to let a bus pass me. as i set there filling my pipe, i suddenly heard a shout of sheer joy come from the other side of the wall.i peered over. there stood sir henry doing nothing less than a tribal war dance of sheer unashamed ecstasy. even when he observed my bewildered face staring over the wall he did not seem put out or embarrassed, but shouted for me to climb over"come and see, jan. look! i have done it at last! i have done it at last!"there he was, holding a small bo of earth in his had. i observed three tiny shoots out of it."and there were only three!" he said, his eyes laughing to heaven.
"three what?" i asked.
"peach stones", he replied. "ive always wanted to make peach stones grow, even since i was a child, when i used to take them home after a party, or as a man after a banquet. and i used to plant them, and then forgot where i planted them. but now at last i have done it, and, whats more, i had only three stones, and there you are, one, two, three shoots," he counted.
and sir henry ran off, calling for his wife to come and see his achievement-his achievement of simplicity.
英语作文 篇5
I used to feel pressured to do well in exams. I was so afraid of falling behind that I kept thinking about studying every minute of the day. The pressure made me out of breath. To my disappointment, the more worried I was about my studies, the less efficient I became.
Later, I realized I just took pressure too seriously. So I tried taking things easy by taking part in various activities out of class, enjoying music and even daydreaming about fun things. To my delight, this worked! Gradually, I became less anxious about exams and began to take pleasure in my studies.
Pressure cannot be avoided. What counts is how to deal with it properly, and above all, how to turn it into pleasure or challenge.
英语作文 篇6
College Graduates Working as Community Workers
Nowadays, some college graduates choose to work in grassroots communities after graduation.I think it is a good practice which can benefit not only themselves but also the whole society.
On the one hand, college graduates can contribute a lot to the development of the community. As we all know.the staff members in the communities are mainly made up of retired workers before, most of whom are not well educated. If college graduates can work in the communities.they can introduce some new concepts and methods to the community. On the other hand.graduates Can also gain a lot from working as community workers.Community is the smallest unit in the society.Students can give full play to their abilities because they have to deal with various people and solve many thorny issues.Besides.one can also improve his practical skills, such as interpersonal skills and organizing ability.
In my opinion, learning practical skills is of great importance for a graduate. Therefore,it is a wise choice for college graduates to have an experience as community workers.
英语作文 篇7
The tape recorder is one of the most welcome and popular electronic devices ever invented. Nowadays, almost every family has a tape recorder. It can record people’s voices or popular songs or some other things that people would like to listen to more than once. Tape recorders have been warmly welcomed since the day they were invented.
This device is useful in many ways. For example, a reporter can use it in interviews instead of the old, less accurate means of writing them in a notebook. Also, in studying foreign languages, students can use it to improve their listening ability. Moreover, they can record their own voice to improve their pronunciation in the foreign language.
However, it can also become a nuisance. Your hearing can be seriously harmed if you listen to a recorder with the volume too high. And, if you can’t control yourself, you can waste a lot of time listening to a recorder. So, if used properly, the recorder will serve you well. If used improperly, it can do harm to you.
英语作文 篇8
Another round of energy crisis is knocking at the door. In 20xx, world oil consumption reached a new record, causing oil price in the international market to skyrocket amazingly.
As for China, it was reported that many traditional mineral cities in northeastern China had run into predicament, with their economy collapsed and workers unemployed, only because coal had been mined out.
Fossil energy resources, including coal, oil and gas, are unlike sunlight, water power and wind power which are generated consistently. They’re not practically reproductive during human history. Once consumed, they’re gone forever.
If they were to be exhausted before we could find sufficient reproductive resources to replace them with, we’d have to live in entire blackout again like our ancestors have done thousands of years ago. That’s of course not what anyone would want to see.
Due to technical limitations, people still have to utilize these resources now.
As a result, we must economize them most cleverly. New techniques should be developed and applied to reduce energy cost in industry and daily life. Alternative energy should be employed wherever possible. Eradicate any practice that wastes energy.
Humans have overcome so many crises in history, and we’re sure to win this time also.
